SAN ANGELO, TX — Two standouts for the Angelo State softball team, Laylonna Applin and Cheyenne Floyd, were named to the 2025 NFCA DII Player and Pitcher of the Year watchlist, the organization announced Thursday.
The Rambelles are one of three schools in the South Central region to have multiple student-athletes named to the list, joining UT Tyler and West Texas A&M.
Applin, a Health Science Professions major from Stamford, has been the standout in the Rambelles lineup this season, hitting .476 with a .981 slugging percentage. Twenty-seven of her 49 hits have gone for extra bases this season, and she leads the team with a .542 on-base percentage.
The sophomore has only struck out six times in 118 plate appearances and leads the Rambelles with 15 stolen bases.
Floyd, who was an NFCA Second Team All-American last season, owns a 1.74 ERA with a 14-5 record in the circle, also picking up a save. He has thrown four shutouts and has struck out 96 batters in 88.2 innings. The Coaching, Sport, Recreation, and Fitness Administration student has held opponents to a .175 batting average this season.
The senior has thrown a pair of no-hitters this season, doing so against Regis on opening day and Cameron on February 16th.
The Rambelles are 26-8 on the season and 17-7 in LSC play. They are in action this weekend against UT Permian Basin and Sul Ross State.
