MIDLAND, TX — San Angelo’s soccer teams returned home with three playoff trophies Thursday after their opening-round games.
The Central girls had the craziest game of the day after surviving a shootout win over El Paso Eastwood. The game was tied 3-3 when it went to penalty kicks, where the Lady Cats won 5-4.
Carley Martinez, Galilea Vasquez and Adrina Dena scored goals for the Lady Cats, while Adison Gonzales and Martinez had assists.
The Lady Cats will play early next week in the area round of the 6A Division II playoffs against the winner of Weatherford and Keller Central.
The Central boys defeated El Paso Socorro 1-0 with Evan Vaughn scoring the game’s lone goal. Goalkeeper Kash Mitchell helped anchor the shutout.
The Bobcats will play Southlake Carroll or Mansfield in the area round next week.
The Lake View girls beat El Paso Austin in a shootout after 100 scoreless minutes.
The Maidens will play Decatur or Canyon early next week in the area round of the 4A Division I playoffs.
The Lake View boys came up just short in a 3-2 overtime loss to El Paso Ysleta.
The Chiefs had won 18 of their previous 19 games before the loss and finished with a record of 19-3.
