SAN ANGELO, TX — With Baylor’s 75-72 win over Mississippi State on Friday, we have four Texas teams moving on to the Round of 32 at the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament.
Baylor will be joined by Houston, Texas Tech and Texas A&M, all of which won their opening games Thursday.
Only the Texas Longhorns failed to win a game after blowing a 10-point second half lead against Xavier in their First Four matchup Wednesday.
We’ll have three teams in action Saturday as No. 4 seed Texas A&M plays No. 5 Michigan at 4:15 p.m., No. 3 Texas Tech plays No. 11 Drake at 5:10 p.m., and No. 1 Houston plays No. 8 Gonzaga at 7:40 p.m.
On Sunday, No. 9 Baylor will play No. 1 Duke or No. 16 Mount St. Mary’s.
Only two men’s basketball teams from the Lone Star State have won the national title — Texas Western in 1966 and Baylor in 2021.
Texas schools have fared better on the women’s side with six national championships from Texas (1986), Texas Tech (1993), Baylor (2005, 2012, 2019) and Texas A&M (2011).
Another one could be in store this year as some of the top women’s teams are from the Lone Star State, including No. 1 seed Texas, No. 2 TCU and No. 4 Baylor.
