2025 San Angelo LIVE! All-Star Girls Hoops Team

 

Here are our selections for the 2025 San Angelo LIVE! All-Star Girls Hoops Team, honoring the best basketball players in West Texas and the Concho Valley:

MVP: Halle Hughes, Christoval, Sr.

Hughes was a force on both ends of the court for the Lady Cougars. The 5-foot-10 point guard, an Angelo State signee, averaged 16.7 points per game, along with 5.7 rebounds, 3.4 assists and 3.5 steals. In her last two seasons, she was a back-to-back district MVP, an all-state selection and led Christoval to the regional semifinals each time.

Co-Offensive MVP: Cinzlea Stanton, San Saba, Sr.; Anna Marie Whitworth, Mason, Jr.

Stanton led the area with 21 points per game to help San Saba reach the state final. She also had averages of 6.2 rebounds, 3 assists, 4 steals and 3.7 deflections. She was named all-state and surpassed the 2,000-point total for her career.

Whitworth averaged 18.8 points per game to earn all-state honors and lead Mason to the regional final. The 6-foot forward also had 12.2 rebounds and 3.4 blocks.

Defensive MVP: Brylyn Watts, Wall, Sr.

The two-time Defensive Player of the Year in her district, Watts was the anchor of Wall’s defense, which held 13 opponents to less than 30 points. The 5-3 guard earned all-region honors and was also a 1,000-point scorer in her career.

Co-Newcomer of the Year: Kyndall Weston, Sonora, Fr.; Brook Kaiser, Sonora, Fr.

These two freshmen made a big impact for Sonora. Weston, a 5-6 guard, averaged 9.5 points, 4.7 rebounds, 1.4 assists and 2.6 steals per game. Kaiser, a 6-foot center, had 9.8 points, 12.9 rebounds and 1.6 blocks.

Co-Coach of the Year: Jerry McSherry, Ozona; Brad Blalock, Christoval

In his first year with Ozona, McSherry guided the Lady Lions to a 30-8 record and a spot in the regional final. It was just the latest chapter in a 30-year career for McSherry, who has had success at schools around the Concho Valley. 

Blalock led Christoval to a district title, which included two impressive wins over Ozona, before the Lady Cougars’ memorable run to the regional semifinals. They upset No. 5 Whiteface in the area round before narrowly falling to No. 3 Farwell.

The Team

Kelyn Gass, Ozona, Sr.

Gass was an athletic playmaker for the Lady Lions during their run to the regional final. The 5-10 guard/forward averaged 15.1 points, 7 rebounds, 1.4 assists and 1.1 blocks per game to earn all-region honors.

Matilda Galvan, Ballinger, Sr.

Galvan was one of the best all-around players in West Texas. The 5-4 guard averaged 13.4 points, 8 rebounds, 3 assists and 6 steals per game. She was named the Offensive MVP of her district and led the Lady Cats to the regional semifinals.

Berkley Callaway, Irion County, Sr.

Callaway made plays everywhere for the Lady Hornets during their run to the regional final. She averaged 12 points, 6.1 rebounds, 4 assists and 4.2 steals per game while shooting 42% from 3-point range. She was named all-state and a co-MVP of her district.

Madyson George, Christoval, Sr.

George was one of the area’s most dynamic offensive players. The 5-6 guard averaged 13.4 points per game for a Christoval team that reached the regional semifinals. The all-region selection also had 3.3 steals per game.

Chassidy Gonzales, San Saba, Jr.

Gonzales played a critical role in San Saba’s run to the state final. The 5-7 guard averaged 17.5 points, 4.5 rebounds, 3 assists, 4 steals and 4 deflections per game to earn all-region laurels.

Avery Davidson, Ozona, Soph.

Davidson was a key player in Ozona’s run to the regional final. The 5-6 guard averaged 10 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists and 3 steals per game.

Reegan Howell, San Angelo Central, Sr.

Howell was the lone senior for a young Lady Cats team that battled to a third-place finish in district. The 5-8 forward was a first-team all-district selection who played strong defense and provided key leadership.

Jazmyne Gipson, San Angelo Central, Jr.

Gipson made an impact all over the court for a defensive-minded Central team. The 5-7 guard/forward averaged 7.3 points, 4.7 rebounds and 2.5 steals to earn first-team all-district honors. She had four or more steals in 10 games.

Karly Baker, Garden City, Jr.

Baker was named all-state and a co-MVP of her district. She led the Lady Kats to the regional final while averaging 15 points, 4 rebounds, 3 assists and 4 steals per game.

Aiva Farris, Brady, Sr.

The District 5-3A Defensive Player of the Year, Farris was a disruptive force with an average of 7 steals and 7 deflections per game. She also averaged 10 points, 9 rebounds and 1 block for the Lady Bulldogs.

Kennedi Graves, Wall, Jr.

Graves provided important offense on a Wall team known for its defense. The 5-3 guard averaged 11 points per game and was a 38% shooter from 3-point range. 

Olivia Sebastain, San Saba, Sr.

The Lady Dillos’ 5-5 guard was an all-region selection. She averaged 10 points, 4 rebounds, 3 assists, 2.1 steals and 2.4 deflections to help San Saba reach the state championship game.

Kathrine Lewis, Wall, Jr.

Lewis was a solid all-around contributor for the Lady Hawks. The 5-3 guard averaged 8.5 points, 3.4 assists and 2.7 steals per game to earn first-team all-district honors.

Jayla Williams, Sonora, Sr.

Williams made plays everywhere for the Lady Broncos. She was a first-team all-district selection with averages of 10.8 points, 9.1 rebounds, 2.6 assists and 4.6 steals.

Christina Geary, Sterling City, Soph.

Geary averaged a double-double for the second consecutive year with 10.6 points and 11.5 rebounds per game, along with 2.2 blocks. She was named the Impact Player of the Year in her district. 

Jessa Battle, Ballinger, Sr.

Battle was a dependable leader for the Lady Cats during their run to the regional semifinals. The 5-7 forward averaged 10.4 points, 6 rebounds, 2 assists and 1.4 steals per game to earn first-team all-district honors.

Ashtyn Wilson, Ballinger, Jr.

Wilson made her presence felt all over the court with 10 points, 5 rebounds, 4.6 steals (along with 5.5 deflections) and 1.4 assists per game. The 5-7 forward was named her district’s Impact Player of the Year.

Kassidy Mitchell, Grape Creek, Jr.

Mitchell was a dependable playmaker for Grape Creek. She averaged 14 points, 8 rebounds and 4 steals per game.

Baylee Rainey, Irion County, Jr.

Rainey was a do-it-all player for the Lady Hornets. She averaged 10 points, 6.2 rebounds, 4.3 assists and 4 steals to earn all-region honors.

Acelyn Fowler, Irion County, Sr.

Fowler was an all-region player for the Lady Hornets. She averaged 10 points, 8 rebounds, 1.2 assists, 1 steal and 1 block per game.

Kendyl Riddle, Miles, Sr.

Riddle averaged a double-double for the Lady Bulldogs with 11.3 points and 10 rebounds per game. She also averaged 2 steals and 2 deflections.

Baylie Bryant, Winters, Sr.

Bryant was a playmaker for the Lady Blizzards with 13.1 points, 4.3 rebounds, 1.3 assists, 3.7 steals and 3.3 deflections per game.

Ainsley Burns, Mason, Jr.

Burns was an all-region selection for the Cowgirls. She averaged 7.9 points, 2.9 assists and 1.9 steals during Mason’s run to the regional final.

Tatum Ruiz, Menard, Sr.

Ruiz was one of the area’s most prolific scorers. She averaged 20.8 points per game, along with 4.3 rebounds, 3.9 assists and 3.6 assists to earn all-region honors.

Flora Appleton, Richland Springs, Soph.

The Lady Coyotes’ 6-1 standout was named all-state after leading Richland Springs to its fifth straight undefeated district title. Their playoff run ended in the second round with a five-point loss to a Broaddus team that went on to win the state championship.

Jayden Gomez, Water Valley, Sr.

The Lady Wildcats’ point guard averaged 12 points per game, 3 rebounds and 3 assists per game to earn all-region honors. She had 16 points in Water Valley’s first-round upset of No. 21 Menard.

Kinley Cummings, Blackwell

Cummings was a first-team all-district player who crossed over the 1,000-point mark for her career. She helped Blackwell earn third place in a difficult district.

Emalyn Bohensky, Bronte, Sr.

Bohensky put up strong numbers on both ends of the court for the Lady Longhorns with 14 points, 8 rebounds, 4.2 steals and 2.1 blocks. She was a first-team all-district pick and even posted a triple-double in one game.

Kyleigh Doss, Water Valley, Sr.

Doss was a strong contributor in the post for the Lady Wildcats with averages of 7 points, 10 rebounds, 3 assists, 3 blocks and 3 deflections per game.
