Texas Longhorns Keep Season Alive, Set Up Rematch With A&M

NASHVILLE, TN — The University of Texas men’s basketball team kept its March Madness hopes alive with a 79-72 win over Vanderbilt in the first round of the SEC Tournament.

With a record of 18-14, the Longhorns need a strong showing this weekend to have a chance at punching their ticket to the NCAA Tournament.

Texas, seeded No. 13 in the 16-team SEC Tournament, will have to get past No. 5 Texas A&M next.

The Horns and Aggies will play at 2:30 p.m. Thursday.

Unlike Texas, A&M’s spot in the NCAA Tournament is secure. The Aggies (22-9) are ranked No. 14 in the AP poll after last week’s win over No. 1 Auburn.

A&M routed Texas 80-60 in their first meeting in College Station, but the Horns pulled off a 70-69 win when they met in Austin.
