FRISCO, TX — The No. 5 seed Angelo State women's basketball team defeated No. 4 seed Eastern New Mexico 71-61 in the quarterfinals of the Lone Star Conference Tournament in the Comerica Center on Thursday.
The Rambelles trailed 50-46 heading into the fourth quarter.
With the win, ASU improved to 18-11 and advances to the semifinals of the LSC Tournament against the nation’s No. 1-ranked team, Texas Woman’s, at noon Saturday.
Keniah Williams had a game-high 22 points for the Belles, along with six rebounds, three steals and a block.
ASU was ranked eighth in the most recent regional rankings, so the Belles are on the bubble in terms of being selected for the eight-team regional tournament next weekend.
Thursday’s win may have been enough to push them over the top, but a favorable result against TWU would help strengthen their case.
ASU lost 69-51 to TWU when they met Feb. 20 in San Angelo.
