DALLAS, TX— The Dallas Cowboys have resigned one of their homegrown defensive tackles.
They locked up Osa Odighizuwa to a 4-year, $80 million deal with $58 million guaranteed. Odighizuwa was one of the top defensive tackles set to hit free agency this year.
Drafted by the Cowboys in 2021, Odighizuwa has started all 17 games the last three seasons and was first in quarterback hits last year.
He is the 14th highest-paid defensive tackle in the NFL and has 13.5 sacks from the interior defensive tackle position in his career.
Locking up the 26-year-old helps shore up the defensive front, but there are still plenty of positions that need help. The Cowboys need depth up front, at linebacker, and in the secondary with cornerback being more a position of need than many want to admit.
Some good news, the Cowboys have apparently opened up contract talks with linebacker Micah Parsons. The All-Pro linebacker is more than likely next to receive a deal.
Other Cowboy news includes the team reportedly placing a second-round tender on return specialist and wide receiver KaVontae Turpin, which means if a team signs him, they’ll give the Cowboys a second-round pick, but Dallas will have the opportunity to match the offer. If Turpin signs the offer, he’ll make $5.4 million on a one-year deal.
The NFL Free Agency period begins March 12. In years past, the Cowboys have sat and waited on signing any players. With them locking down Odighizuwa early, maybe things will change this year.
The 2025 NFL Draft begins with the first round on April 24, followed by the second and third rounds on April 25, and the fourth-seventh rounds April 26.
