Fourth-Quarter Comeback Sends Angelo State Women Into LSC Tournament as No. 5 Seed

 

SAN ANGELO, TX — The Angelo State University women’s basketball team overcame an eight-point deficit in the fourth quarter to earn a 68-65 win over UT Permian Basin on Thursday at the Junell Center.

With the win, the Rambelles earned the No. 5 seed in next week’s Lone Star Conference Tournament. They would have dropped to No. 8 with a loss.

The Belles (17-11 overall, 13-9 LSC) will open the LSC Tournament against No. 4 Eastern New Mexico (20-8, 15-7) at 8:30 p.m. Thursday, March 6, at the Comerica Center in Frisco.

ASU trailed UTPB 60-52 with about 6:30 remaining when the Belles closed with a 16-5 run to take the win.

Freshman Taylor Grona hit a 3-pointer with 1:51 to play to give the Belles the lead for good. 

UTPB (13-15, 11-11) ended up as the No. 8 seed in the LSC Tournament and will draw No. 1 West Texas A&M.
