SAN ANGELO, TX — The Angelo State University men’s basketball team pulled off a pair of wins last week, including an upset of No. 5-ranked Dallas Baptist, to keep its Lone Star Conference Tournament hopes alive.
The Rams beat Dallas Baptist 68-61 on Thursday, followed by a 76-62 win over UT Tyler on Saturday.
The wins vaulted ASU into a tie with West Texas A&M and UT Permian Basin for seventh place in the LSC standings.
The top eight teams will advance to the LSC Tournament next week.
ASU can lock up a spot with a win over UT Permian Basin at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the Junell Center. With a loss, the Rams will need help to keep their season alive.
Dallas Baptist was the highest-ranked team the Rams have beaten since a win over No. 3 Tarleton State in 2015.
In the win over UT Tyler, former San Angelo Central High School standout Kollin Albright scored his first collegiate points. The freshman made a layup and a free throw to finish with three points and a rebound.
The Rams improved to 16-11 overall and 12-9 in LSC play.
