RICHARDSON, TX — After a great weekend for the Angelo State women’s tennis team, Ivet Stancheva has been named the Lone Star Conference Women’s Tennis Player of the Week, the conference announced Wednesday.
Stancheva played a pivotal role in helping the Rambelles secure victories over Central Oklahoma (4-3) and No. 24 Missouri Western (4-3), marking the first-ever win over Missouri Western in program history.
Clutch Performances
- Against Central Oklahoma: With the Belles down 3-1, Stancheva stepped onto the court and dominated her match, winning 6-3, 6-0 to tie the overall match at 3-3.
- Against No. 24 Missouri Western: Stancheva delivered a three-set thriller, securing a 6-7, 6-3, 6-2 victory to once again even the match at 3-3.
With these victories, Stancheva extended her unbeaten streak to 11 consecutive matches.
This marks Stancheva’s first career Player of the Week honor and the seventh time a Rambelle has earned the award under head coach Jason Potthoff.
Stancheva and the Belles will be back in action this weekend as they take on Ouachita Baptist on Friday and Arkansas Tech on Saturday.
