ANDREWS, TX — The Christoval High School girls basketball team again proved it could play with the best teams in the state.
A few days after knocking off No. 5-ranked Whiteface, the unranked Lady Cougars nearly took down No. 3 Farwell on Monday.
Christoval led by six points in the fourth quarter, but the Lady Cougars were unable to hold on as Farwell rallied for a 50-47 win.
Christoval lost 52-29 to Farwell earlier this year, and the Lady Cougars’ season ended last year against Farwell 43-26 in this same round.
This time, Christoval hung with the Lady Blue the entire game and made their move in the fourth quarter.
Farwell’s Makylee Baldwin, who had 22 points, scored nine straight points to will her team to a comeback win.
Christoval was led by Angelo State signee Hallee Hughes, who had 21 points. Madyson George added 12 and Sophia Nemec had 9.
Christoval’s season ended with a record of 28-8.
Farwell improved to 33-3 and will play the winner of No. 10 Clarendon or Roscoe in a Class 2A Division II regional final.
