Turnover Struggles Sink the Wall Hawks

SAN SABA, TX — Despite a furious 4th quarter comeback, turnovers and a stifling defense sunk the Wall Hawks in the Bi-District Championship against Blanco on Monday night. The Hawks struggled offensively until late in the game to fall to Blanco in San Saba, 36-34.

Watch the game highlights below:

The defensive battle began early. Wall used the Hawks' size to keep Blanco off the scoreboard in the 1st quarter. However, Blanco's full-court press was a thorn that the Hawks never removed throughout to keep the score 6-3 after the 1st quarter.

Wall shot better in the 2nd, but turnovers in transition led to several easy buckets by Blanco. The Panthers took the lead with less than two minutes to play in the half. Nineteen points from Blanco gave the Panthers a 22-17 lead at the break.

Blanco extended its lead to six points entering the 4th quarter.

In the 4th, Wall played tough defensively to hold the Panthers to a mere six points. Lane Stansberry scored seven of the Hawks' ten points in the 4th but ultimately fouled out with 12 seconds to play. Unfortunately, the six-point advantage was too much to overcome in the end, as Wall missed the final shot at the buzzer. Blanco claimed victory, 36-34.

Jager Thompson led the Hawks on offense on Monday night with 18 points, followed by Stansberry with nice points.
