SAN ANGELO, TX — Angelo State baseball continues to garner national recognition as Dax Dathe, Jacob Guerrero, and Caleb Heuertz have been named to the National Collegiate Baseball Writers’ Association (NCBWA) Preseason All-South Central Region team.
The selections, announced Tuesday afternoon, were determined by an eight-member committee representing the Lone Star Conference and the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC).
Dax Dathe – RHP, Round Rock, Texas
Dathe, a senior pursuing a master’s degree in Coaching, Sport, Recreation, and Fitness Administration, posted a 9-4 record in 18 appearances for the Rams in 2024. The right-hander finished the season with a 4.85 ERA over 85.1 innings, tallying 110 strikeouts—ranking third in NCAA Division II. His dominant performance earned him spots on both the D2CCA and NCBWA South Central Region First Teams.
Jacob Guerrero – OF, Colleyville, Texas
Guerrero adds another accolade to his résumé after an impressive 2024 season in which he batted .368 with 11 home runs, four triples, 25 doubles, and 76 RBIs. The senior, currently pursuing a master’s in Accounting, was named the Lone Star Conference Preseason Player of the Year and earned postseason regional honors from both the D2CCA and NCBWA.
Caleb Heuertz – RHP, San Angelo, Texas
Heuertz, a senior Business Management major, was one of two players unanimously selected to the preseason team. The San Angelo native and former Wall Hawk recorded a career-best 2.29 ERA in 25 appearances last season, notching seven saves and 69 strikeouts over 51 innings. His dominance on the mound secured him postseason All-American recognition.
