RICHARDSON, TX – The Angelo State baseball team has been selected as the favorite to win its eighth Lone Star Conference (LSC) Championship, according to the Lone Star Conference's annual Preseason Poll released Thursday morning.
The Rams earned 483 total points and received 29 of the 39 possible first-place votes. ASU is coming off a 44-21 season, including a 32-16 record in LSC play. The team secured its fourth consecutive South Central Regional Championship last year and became the first program since 2007 to appear in back-to-back National Championship games.
Rams' Senior Jacob Guerrero was named the LSC Preseason Player of the Year for the second straight season. The Colleyville, Texas, native posted a .368 batting average with 11 home runs, four triples, and 25 doubles while driving in 76 RBIs and scoring 79 runs. His 30 stolen bases led the conference, and he was also recognized on the LSC All-Academic Team.
Last season’s regular season and tournament champion, Lubbock Christian, was picked second in the poll and received five first-place votes. West Texas A&M, UT Tyler, and St. Edward’s rounded out the top five.

The Rams will open their season at home against UT Permian Basin on Friday, Jan. 31, at Foster Field at 1st Community Credit Union Stadium.
