SAN ANGELO, TX — Majik Esquivel scored a career-high 31 points to lead the Angelo State women’s basketball team to a 84-61 win over Midwestern State on Thursday night.
The 5-foot-8 freshman from Lubbock-Cooper High School knocked down 10 of 16 shots from the floor — including 5 of 9 attempts from 3-point range.
She also hit 6 of 8 free throws, and she added five rebounds, three assists and a steal.
ASU actually trailed 17-14 after the first quarter and held only a 30-28 lead at halftime.
The Rambelles used a big third quarter to take a 59-42 lead into the fourth.
Madi Lumsden had 19 points and seven rebounds, while Madeline Stephens scored 13 points with nine rebounds and four steals.
The Belles improved to 13-3 overall and 9-1 in the Lone Star Conference. Midwestern fell to 6-10, 4-6.
ASU will play again when it hosts No. 18-ranked Lubbock Christian at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Junell Center.
