SAN ANGELO, TX — The Angelo State men’s basketball team fell to West Texas A&M, 81-61, on Thursday evening at the Junell Center – Stephens Arena, marking their first home loss of the season.
Despite leading by two points at halftime, the Rams were unable to contain the Buffs in the second half. West Texas A&M caught fire after the break, shooting 62% from both the field and three-point range to secure the decisive win.
Angelo State shot 44.4% from the field overall and hit five of nine three-point attempts in the first half. However, their offensive output slowed in the second half while the Buffs surged ahead.
Carvell Teasett led the Rams in scoring with 19 points on 6-for-11 shooting, including 3-for-7 from beyond the arc. Teasett also made all four of his free throw attempts, but he was the only Ram to reach double figures.
Shemar Smith contributed eight points, and Denim Dawson added seven points in 17 minutes off the bench. DJ Freeman, Kaden Evans, and Jalen Gilmore each chipped in six points. Freeman also tallied three rebounds, three steals, and a blocked shot, while Evans led the team with five rebounds and four assists.
The loss drops Angelo State to 9-5 on the season and 5-3 in Lone Star Conference play. The Rams will look to bounce back on Saturday when they host Eastern New Mexico, coming off a narrow four-point loss to UT Permian Basin in Odessa.
