ALPINE, TX — The Angelo State Rams closed out a six-game road trip with two victories over the weekend. The Rams first claimed a 75-63 over Western New Mexico in New Mexico on Friday before Angelo State secured a 77-64 win over LSC newcomers Sul Ross State on Sunday afternoon in Alpine.
Against Western New Mexico, a strong first half and tough defense lifted the Rams to victory. Angelo State held the Mustangs to 35% from the field shooting and 23.1% from three in the win.
Sterling Gaston-Chapman led the Rams in scoring with 15 points. He made two of his five three-point attempts and went 5-for-6 from the free-throw line. He was also one of three Rams to record three assists.
Against Sul Ross State, the Rams got off to another hot start, opening the game on a 15-0 run in the game's first 6:50. For the game, the Rams shot 50.8 percent from the field.
The Rams out-rebounded the Lobos 37-29 and dominated inside, scoring 36 points in the paint compared to the Sul Ross State’s' 18.
Sterling Gaston-Chapman scored a career-high 22 points on 7-for-15 shooting from the field and 3-for-5 from three-point range. The senior made all five free throw attempts and grabbed four rebounds. The senior guard has scored double figures in ten of the Rams' 13 games this season.
The Rams improved to 9-4 on the season and 5-2 in LSC play. They are back home next weekend to kick off a four-game home stand, starting with No. 13 West Texas A&M on Thursday night.
