Basketball Roundup: Veribest Boys Improve to 14-2 With Win Over Bronte

 

VERIBEST, TX  — The Veribest Falcons continued their hot start to the season with a 39-21 win over Bronte on Friday.

Veribest was led by Bryce Martin with 16 points. 

The Falcons’ defense locked down Bronte on the way to a 16-6 halftime lead and a 29-15 advantage after three quarters.

Veribest improved to 14-2 overall and 3-0 in District 11-1A. Bronte is 6-10, 0-2.

Veribest has a key district game Tuesday at Irion County, while Bronte will host Water Valley.

No. 5 Killeen Ellison Too Much for San Angelo Central Boys

The Central Bobcats ran into a buzzsaw in their final nondistrict game, dropping a 99-71 decision to Killeen Ellison on Friday.

Ellison is ranked No. 5 in the state in Class 5A.

Sean Parks had 27 points, while Ahziel McIver had 24 points to lead Ellison.

Central was led by Christian English with 20 points, followed by Talmadge Taylor with 19 and Trey Allen with 13.

Central fell to 19-5, while Ellison improved to 16-5.

The Bobcats will open District 2-6A play Friday, Jan. 10, at Frenship.

Brady Boys Cruise Past Snyder

The Brady Bulldogs earned a 48-25 win over Snyder on Friday in their final nondistrict game.

Senior Gauge Evans had a game-high 21 points, and sophomore Haden Moore added 15.

Brady improved to 10-5. The Bulldogs will open District 5-3A play Friday, Jan. 10, at home against Blanco.

Lake View Boys Top Greenwood

The Lake View Chiefs earned a 55-50 road win over Greenwood on Friday.

Lake View improved to 9-10.

The Chiefs will play their last nondistrict game Tuesday at Odessa High before opening District 5-4A play at Big Spring on Friday, Jan. 10.

San Angelo Central Girls Drop District Opener to Midland Legacy

The Central Lady Cats lost 47-27 to Midland Legacy on Friday in their District 2-6A opener.

Legacy jumped out to a 17-8 first-quarter lead and was up 27-13 by halftime.

Central was led by Jazmyne Gipson with 10 points. Aniyah Mayberry had 13 and Erinn Mayberry had 12 for Legacy.

Central fell to 7-17 overall and 0-1 in district. Legacy is 12-12, 1-0.

Central will host Midland High on Tuesday.
