San Angelo’s Joel Harris Wins First-Ever Round at National Finals Rodeo

 

LAS VEGAS, NV — San Angelo’s Joel Harris won Round 5 of tie-down roping at the National Finals Rodeo on Monday for his first victory on the sport’s biggest stage.

Harris clocked a time of 7.6 seconds to earn $33,687 and jump into fifth place in the overall standings.

Joel’s brother, Ty, who won Round 3, took fifth place in Round 5 in 8.4 seconds

He remains in third place in the overall standings.

San Angelo’s third cowboy in the event, Dylan Hancock, was 12th Monday in 10.6 seconds. He dropped one spot to eighth in the overall standings.

Riley Webb, who had won three of the first four rounds (and was second in the other), finally had an off night. He finished just out of the money in seventh in 9.0 seconds.

Shad Mayfield was third in 8.1 to make up ground on Webb for the overall lead. He still trails by over $21,000.

The 10-day competition will continue with Round 6 on Tuesday.
