San Angelo’s Ty Harris wins Round 3 at National Finals Rodeo

LAS VEGAS, NV — The tie-down roping competition at the National Finals Rodeo had San Angelo written all over it during Saturday’s third round.

All three San Angelo cowboys finished in the top five, led by Ty Harris, who won the round with a time of 6.9 seconds to pocket $33,687.

His younger brother, Joel Harris, was third in 7.3 seconds for $20,104.

Dylan Hancock was fifth in 7.5 for $8,693.

It was an outstanding bounce-back performance after they all finished near the bottom of the standings in Round 2.

Ty Harris is now in third place in the overall standings with $262,859.53, while Joel Harris has jumped to sixth place ($173,537.29).

Despite his strong showing Saturday, Hancock fell one spot to 12th place ($162,283.16) after being jumped by Tuf Cooper.

Defending world champion Riley Webb, who won the first two rounds, finished in second place Saturday to move into the top spot ahead of Shad Mayfield, who tied for sixth.

Webb has earned $320,905.02, giving him a slight edge over Mayfield’s $313,190.26.

The 10-day competition will continue with Round 4 on Sunday.
