San Angelo Central's Colter Farmer Signs With Vernon College

SAN ANGELO, TX — San Angelo Central’s Colter Farmer signed Tuesday to play baseball at Vernon College.

Farmer had a large gathering of friends, family, teammates and coaches for a signing ceremony at Sports Next Level.

“I feel blessed. I’ve been looking forward to this since I was a kid,” Farmer said. “I remember looking back at pictures, and I’ve been holding a baseball in my hand since I was a toddler. So I’m just blessed to be able to sign today.”

Central baseball coach Stan Gideon called Farmer a “rare player who can still play multiple positions at his age.”

Farmer played at catcher and pitcher last season for Central, earning second-team all-district honors as a pitcher.

Gideon said Farmer could play in the infield or outfield as well.

On the mound, Farmer recorded a 3.99 ERA in 40.1 innings with 42 strikeouts last year.

Farmer said he’s going to be a catcher for Vernon College, which is in north Texas about 50 miles northwest of Wichita Falls.

The Chaps are coming off a 32-24 season last year that was the best in the program’s seven-year history.

“They had a great season last season, and they just got new coaches about two years ago. I love the coaches. They seem like they have a pretty good program going so far, and the facilities are really nice, and I can’t wait to be there,” Farmer said.

Farmer was also an all-district linebacker and punter for Central’s football team.

He hopes to help Central’s baseball team break through with a playoff trip this season

“I feel like we have some great potential, and I feel like we can go pretty far in the playoffs if we actually stick to it and practice hard and play hard,” Farmer said.

As for his ultimate goal at Vernon College, Farmer said he’s just going to enjoy each day and keep playing baseball as long as he can.

“Day by day, I’m just going to play some baseball and enjoy my dream, and hopefully I make it to the bigs one day,” he said.
