Longtime Blackwell Football Coach Clint Lowry Dies at 66

BLACKWELL, TX — Longtime Blackwell High School football coach Clint Lowry died Tuesday, Nov. 19, 2024. He was 66.

Lowry had several stops during a 23-year head coaching career that began in 2000 at Sands and ended this past school year.

He spent the last 11 years at Blackwell, where he led the program to a record of 85-41.

Lowry oversaw the best season in school history in 2019, when the Hornets went 13-1 and reached the state semifinals. They had a memorable 62-54 upset of No. 1-ranked Jayton in the state quarterfinals.

As luck would have it, the Blackwell football team will play Jayton at 6:30 p.m. Thursday in the second round of the playoffs.

Lowry also coached at Grandfalls, Brookesmith and Rising Star.

He graduated from Gordon High School in 1976 and attended college at Tarleton State University.

A post on sixmanfootball.com had numerous comments from friends, coaches and former players extending prayers and recalling memories.

Funeral services are pending with McCoy Funeral Home in Sweetwater.
