SAN ANGELO, TX — The Bronte and Water Valley volleyball teams each won their regional quarterfinal playoff matches Tuesday to advance to the Region I-1A Tournament this weekend at Central High School in San Angelo.
No. 5-ranked Bronte outlasted No. 4 Benjamin in as exciting of a three-set match as you’ll see with a 27-25, 27-25, 27-25 win in Breckenridge.
Kylie Reno had 18 kills and 13 digs to lead Bronte, while Emalyn Bohensky had 14 kills and 10 digs. Cate Schiavi dished out 29 assists and anchored the defense with 15 digs. Hailey Beal added three aces and nine digs.
The Lady Longhorns’ district rival, No. 7 Water Valley, also won in a sweep over Marathon in Rankin. No score or stats are available from that match.
Both Concho Valley schools are now two wins away from reaching the UIL State Tournament on Nov. 21-23 in Garland.
Water Valley will play Fort Elliott at 3 p.m. Friday at Central’s Babe Didrikson Gym, while Bronte will take on Wildorado at 5 p.m. Friday.
The winners of those matches will meet in the regional final at 1 p.m. Saturday.
Out on the edge of the Concho Valley, Richland Springs is also marching on after the Lady Coyotes swept Bluff Dale 25-12, 25-15, 25-20 on Tuesday in Brownwood.
Richland Springs will play No. 1 Harrold at 7 p.m. Friday in Midlothian.
