SAN ANGELO, TX — The Lake View Chiefs lost a 45-37 heartbreaker in overtime to Pecos on Friday in their District 3-4A Division I opener at San Angelo Stadium.
Lake View's Izaiah Rios kicked a 41-yard field goal in the closing seconds to force OT at 37-37.
Pecos scored on its opening possession of OT and converted its two-point try.
Lake View was unable to answer with a TD of its own, though the Chiefs had a tough-luck finish. Wide receiver DJ Munoz collided with a referee in the end zone as he attempted to haul in Chris Alvizo’s final pass of the game on a fourth-and-goal from the 13.
Alvizo was 17-of-26 passing for 279 yards and three TDs with one interception.
Braylon White had eight catches for 116 yards and a TD, Cristian Esparza had four catches for 99 yards and a TD, and Francisco Ramirez had three catches for 50 yards and a TD.
In addition to his clutch field goal, Rios also had 14 carries for 96 yards and a TD.
Roman Garcia had an INT on defense.
Lake View was without running back Sammy Ramirez and offensive lineman Trey Henry due to injury.
The Chiefs led 15-14 at halftime and 28-21 at the end of the third quarter before a back-and-forth final quarter.
Lake View fell to 2-6 overall and 0-1 in district, while Pecos improved to 3-5, 1-0.
Lake View will host Big Spring next week on Thursday. Pecos will host Andrews.
