SAN ANGELO, TX — With the basketball season set to tip off in just under three weeks, the Lone Star Conference has released its annual preseason poll.
The Angelo State Rambelles, under fourth-year head coach Alesha Ellis, were tabbed to finish sixth with 507 points.
ASU was 20-12 overall last year and 14-8 in LSC play.
Texas Woman's topped the poll following a run to the national final last year. The Pioneers received 703 total votes and 37 first-place votes. Forward Ashley Ingram was also named the LSC’s Preseason Player of the Year.
Lubbock Christian was picked second with three first-place votes and 627 total votes after reaching the regional tournament last year.
UT Tyler was tabbed for a third-place finish with two first-place votes and 614 points total, followed by UT Permian Basin and West Texas A&M each receiving one first-place vote to round out the top five.
Rambelles forward Madeline Stephens was named to the LSC Women's Basketball Preseason Players to Watch list following a season that saw her average 13 points per contest.
Stephens averaged 7.7 rebounds, and 2.8 assists on 48% shooting to earn LSC second-team honors.
The Rambelles will begin the season on the road against MSU Denver on Nov. 8. ASU’s home opener is at 1 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 10, against Western State at the Junell Center.
