Friday Night Rewind: Best Games, Biggest Wins and Top Performers From Last Week

Here are the best games, biggest wins and top performers from last week’s high school football action in West Texas:

Biggest win: Reagan County

The Reagan County Owls’ 44-28 win over Ozona has them positioned to make a run at the title in District 3-2A Division I. Reagan County has a 5-1 overall record after the district-opening win heading into another home game Friday against Christoval.

Best game: Bronte-Loraine

The Bronte Longhorns survived a 62-61 shootout against Loraine for a district-opening win in 6-1A Division II. Bronte is now in great position to earn a playoff spot or even win the district title.

Biggest surprise: Grape Creek

The Grape Creek Eagles’ 34-20 victory over Coahoma last week was a statement win. Coahoma had a 4-1 record and was averaging over 48 points per game. Grape Creek has posted some impressive results this year, and this was the best yet.

Strong in defeat: San Angelo Central

The Central Bobcats came up short in a 42-36 win at Midland Legacy, but their performance against the defending district champs suggests they can compete for a playoff spot. Central rallied from a 35-14 halftime deficit to give themselves a chance late against Legacy.

Case for the defense: Sonora

While Sonora quarterback threw for 433 yards and six touchdowns in a 52-0 win over Forsan, the Broncos’ defense also shined again with a shutout. Sonora has allowed a combined 22 points during its four-game winning streak.
