San Angelo Lake View Hosts Brownfield for Homecoming on Friday

SAN ANGELO, TX — The San Angelo Lake View football team is finally back at home again.

The Chiefs are returning from a three-game road trip that felt especially long with three losses following drives to Lubbock, Levelland and Burnet.

Lake View (1-5) will host Brownfield (0-6) for its homecoming at 7 p.m. Friday at San Angelo Stadium.

“It feels great,” said Lake View head coach Hector Guevara of playing at home again. “Those road trips weren’t short. Each road trip was at least three hours long, so that takes a toll on you, especially when the kids are in class all day, and we practice in the morning and practice in the afternoon, so it’ll catch up to you.”

Lake View (1-5) has a chance to pick up a win in its last nondistrict game against a Brownfield team that has lost all of its games by at least 20 points.

The Chiefs haven’t won since the last time they were at home when they defeated Lamesa 55-42 to snap an 11-game losing streak.

Lake View’s offense wasn’t able to approach that same level on the road, averaging less than 17.7 points per game.

The Chiefs lost 57-14 last week to Burnet. A fumble on the 1-yard line when the Chiefs could have pulled within 14-7 was a gut-punch play they never recovered from.

“Our boys played tough. We started off slow and them a short field, and you just can’t do that,” Guevara said. “(Burnet) was pretty big and pretty fast, and we had to overcome a lot. We dug a hole too deep and couldn’t get out of it.”

Lake View quarterback Chris Alvizo threw for 228 yards and two TDs on 15-of-21 passing. Both TD passes went to Francisco Ramirez, who had seven catches for 122 yards.

The Chiefs will head into their bye next week before beginning District 3-4A Division I play at home against Pecos on Friday, Oct. 25.
