Ozona Takes Down No. 8 Miles With Fourth-Quarter Comeback

OZONA, TX — The Ozona Lions scored three touchdowns in the fourth quarter to rally past No. 8-ranked Miles for a 34-28 win Friday on homecoming night.

It was a rematch of last year's wild 70-68 win by Miles. While the sequel wasn't quite as high-scoring, it still had plenty of fireworks.

Miles wide receiver Cooper Ellison caught four TD passes from Liam Yancy as the Bulldogs took a 28-14 lead into the fourth quarter.

Ozona quarterback Hudson Fowler threw a 28-yard TD pass to Exander Whitley to start the comeback with about 10 minutes left, followed by a 40-yard TD pass to Andres Quiroz to tie the game at 28-28 with 4:57 remaining.

Ozona took its first lead with 2:59 to play when a blocked punt led to Christian Villarreal's 7-yard TD run.

An interception by Michael Daniels sealed the win.

Villarreal, who had 23 carries for 233 yards, also had a 71-yard TD run for Ozona, which trailed 14-7 at halftime. He added three catches for 48 yards.

Fowler threw for 233 yards and three TDs on 14-of-21 passing with two INTs.

Ozona wide receiver Rielee Barrera had four catches for 76 yards and a TD.

Ellison led Miles with 12 catches for 235 yards. Yancy threw for 270 yards on 19-of-28 passing with one INT.

Jaylen Torres had 23 carries for 119 yards to lead Miles on the ground.

Both teams now have a 4-1 record heading into their bye week next week.

Ozona will play its next game Oct. 11 at Reagan County to kick off District 3-2A Division I play.

Miles will play again Oct. 11 when it travels to play No. 5 Albany in the District 7-2A Division II opener.
