LUBBOCK, TX — The Lake View Chiefs’ offense struggled for the first time this year in a 31-13 loss Thursday on the road to Lubbock High.
Lake View, which was averaging 39 points per game through three weeks, took a 7-0 lead on a touchdown pass from Chris Alvizo to Francisco Ramirez late in the first quarter.
The Chiefs wouldn’t find the end zone again, however, until the fourth quarter.
An Isaac Monreal interception gave Lake View a chance to extend its early lead, but the Chiefs failed to capitalize, and Lubbock High reeled off the next 31 points.
Alvizo threw an interception that was returned 21 yards for a TD by Lubbock High’s Malik Cartwright to give the Westerners a 14-7 lead.
A 50-yard field goal by Yael Ontiveros gave Lubbock High a 17-7 halftime advantage.
Lubbock High held a 24-7 lead after three quarters. A 58-yard TD run by Derek Torrez put the game away with 7:55 remaining.
Alvizo found Daniel Munoz for a late TD pass that gave the game its final score of 31-13.
Lake View fell to 1-3, while Lubbock High improved to 3-1 with its first three-game winning streak since 1975.
Lake View will play next week at Levelland on Friday, Sept. 27. Lubbock High won’t play again until its district opener Oct. 3 at home against Amarillo Tascosa.
