SAN ANGELO, TX — The San Angelo Central volleyball team continued its outstanding start to the season with a pair of wins over Granbury and Abilene Wylie on Tuesday.
The Lady Cats, ranked No. 15 in the state in Class 6A, improved to 18-2.
Central swept Granbury 25-17, 25-22, 25-13. The Lady Cats had a five-set win over Wylie, but a score was unavailable.
Central will take a six-match winning streak into its District 2-6A opener Friday on the road against Midland Legacy.
The Lady Cats’ next home appearance will be at 6 p.m. Tuesday against Clyde in a nondistrict match.
No. 9 Water Valley Outduels No. 7 Sonora
In a matchup of Top 10 teams, Water Valley held off Sonora in four sets Tuesday with a 25-16, 25-15, 20-25, 27-25 win.
Water Valley is ranked No. 9 in Class 1A and improved to 20-3. Sonora is ranked No. 7 in 2A and fell to 21-5.
Water Valley will visit Forsan on Saturday, while Sonora will host Bronte in its next match Tuesday.
No. 13 Bronte Sweeps Sterling City
The Bronte Lady Longhorns earned a 25-15, 25-12, 25-18 win over Sterling City on Tuesday.
Bronte is ranked No. 13 in 1A.
Kylie Reno had a team-high 13 kills and six aces, while Emalyn Bohensky added 11 kills.
Caterina Schiavi paced the offense with 27 assists. November Wilson led the defense with 19 digs.
Bronte (15-8) will play again Saturday at Hawley. Sterling City (6-10) will host Fort Davis on Saturday.
Wall Battles in Loss to No. 13 Greenwood
The Wall Lady Hawks pushed Midland Greenwood in each set but came up short in a 25-22, 25-20, 25-21 loss Tuesday.
Greenwood (23-6) is ranked No. 13 in 4A. Wall (13-12) is unranked in 3A.
Wall will host 6A Midland High on Friday in its next match before beginning district play Tuesday at Merkel.
