SAN ANGELO, TX — The Angelo State Rams and Rambelles cross country teams are set to begin their 2024 season at the Texas Tech Invitational in Lubbock on Friday, Sept. 13. The races will take place at the LCU Cross Country Course, which hosted last year’s South Central Regional. The Rams and Rambelles last competed on this course at the 2023 Texas Tech Open.
Last Season's Performance
At the 2023 Texas Tech Open, the Rambelles finished in eighth place with a combined team time of 2:06:51. Mary Brown was the second-fastest Rambelle, crossing the finish line in 25:18.5. The Rams placed 12th with a team time of 2:30:27.
Rambelles Preview
The Rambelles enter the 2024 season with a mix of returning experience and fresh talent. Mary Brown and Allison Vaughn are the two returning runners from last season, while the team adds six freshmen and one transfer for a total of nine runners. Brown, who finished 33rd at the 2023 Lone Star Conference (LSC) Championships with a personal best of 23:55.3, was named a 'Runner to Watch' by the LSC. The Rambelles were projected to repeat their sixth-place conference finish, receiving 283 points and one first-place vote in the LSC preseason poll.
Rams Preview
The Rams will also field a youthful team in 2024, with two returners joined by six new runners for a total of eight. Austin Souther and Tate Hughes are the team's standout returners, both earning recognition as 'Runners to Watch' for the season. Souther placed 70th at last year’s LSC Championships with a time of 28:25.9, while Hughes followed closely in 79th with a 28:46.6. The Rams were picked to finish ninth in the LSC preseason poll, accumulating 138 points.
