Angelo State Volleyball Sets Conference Attendance Record in Opening Match

 

SAN ANGELO, TX — The Angelo State University volleyball team set an attendance record for the Lone Star Conference on Friday with 3,315 fans watching the Rambelles’ season-opening match against New Mexico Highlands at the Junell Center.

Many of the fans were about 3,000 elementary and junior high students from the Concho Valley.

ASU swept New Mexico Highlands 25-14, 25-19, 25-15, but the Belles lost a five-setter to No. 23-ranked Central Oklahoma 23-25, 25-20, 25-19, 23-25, 15-12.

In addition to the attendance record, ASU also had a milestone with libero Caleigh Enax becoming the 17th player in program history to record 1,000 digs.

Enax had a combined 51 digs in the two matches. 

Evelyn Torres led ASU in each match with 17 kills. Adeline Ortman paced the offense with a combined 81 assists on the day.

ASU closes out the weekend with two matches Saturday at 10 a.m. against Fort Lewis and 6 p.m. against Emmanuel.
