LUBBOCK, TX — Texas Tech Athletics celebrated the conclusion of The Campaign for Fearless Champions on Friday, marking the end of the most successful fundraising initiative in its history. The campaign raised over $500 million for facilities and student-athlete resources.
It was 10 years ago this month when Texas Tech Director of Athletics Kirby Hocutt declared, “We believe we have a bold future in front of us.” Hocutt’s vision has since transformed Texas Tech’s athletic facilities across all sports and invested significantly in the student-athlete experience, enhancing scholarships, academic resources, strength and conditioning, sports psychology, nutrition, and the establishment of the J.T. and Margaret Talkington Department of Student-Athlete Development.
"It is with great pride that we celebrate the tremendous success of The Campaign for Fearless Champions," Hocutt said. "From the start, our goal was to position Texas Tech Athletics to compete at the highest levels. Thanks to our generous donors at every level, we are ready to achieve that goal.”
Under Hocutt’s leadership, Texas Tech has significantly upgraded its athletic facilities through the campaign, including the world-class Whitacre Athletic Complex and Sports Performance Center, the Dustin R. Womble Basketball Center, the Texas Tech baseball team facility, and the Cash Family Nutrition Center. The campaign officially concludes with the completion of its flagship project—the South End Zone Building at Jones AT&T Stadium and the Dustin R. Womble Football Center—a $242 million project set to open this season.
"Thank you to every donor at every level for your incredible generosity and unwavering support over the past decade," said Senior Associate Athletics Director Andrea Tirey. "Your contributions to The Campaign for Fearless Champions have directly enhanced athletic facilities and enriched the lives of our student-athletes. Your investment is a commitment to excellence and a belief in the future of Texas Tech Athletics."
With the completion of the campaign’s final projects, Texas Tech will shift its fundraising efforts to address the current needs of student-athletes. In June 2023, Texas Tech announced a modernization effort to the Red Raider Club, aiming to maximize support for student-athletes, including the promotion of The Matador Club, the official NIL collective for Texas Tech Athletics. The focus on NIL initiatives will grow in the coming months as Texas Tech adapts to the evolving landscape of intercollegiate athletics.
“Texas Tech has proven to be a national leader in the NIL space and will continue to do so as we transition our fundraising efforts to current student-athlete priorities,” Hocutt said. “Texas Tech Athletics intends to compete at the highest level in everything we do, and I firmly believe our best days are ahead of us due to the support we receive each and every day.”
