RICHARDSON, TX — The Angelo State University volleyball team was picked to finish in third place in the Lone Star Conference preseason poll that was released Monday.
The Rambelles finished third with 610 points overall and received two first-place votes. West Texas, which was the national runner-up last year, was picked to repeat as conference champs, receiving 674 points and 23 of 41 first-place votes, while Dallas Baptist was picked second with 665 points and 15 first-place votes.
The Belles were followed in the poll by Texas A&M-Kingsville (one first-place vote; 562 total points), UT Tyler (536 points), Texas Woman's University (481 points), Lubbock Christian (430 points) and Texas A&M International (418 points).
The Belles are coming off a season in which they went 24-8 overall and 12-4 in LSC play as they advanced to the LSC Tournament Semifinals and qualified for the South Central Regional, where they took down second-seeded Regis in the opening round before falling to MSU Denver in the semifinals.
Head coach Chuck Waddington returns 10 players from last season's team and adds 10 new players.
The Belles open the 2024 season by hosting the Kathleen Brasfield Invitational on Sept. 6-7 at the Junell Center.
