PARIS, FRANCE — The United States won its 5th straight gold medal with a 98-87 win in the men’s final over host country France on Saturday. The world may have caught up to the USA in terms of overall basketball talent, but when the rubber meets the road, no one matches up to the Americans.
France hung tough throughout but never truly threatened the United States' lead. Steph Curry hit eight three-pointers on the evening to secure victory. LeBron James cemented legend status behind 14 points, 6 rebounds, and 10 assists, another gold medal, and an Olympics MVP.
James averaged 14.2 points, 6.8 rebounds, and 8.5 assists throughout his Olympic run and became only the second American ever to achieve a triple-double in competition in the semifinal game against Serbia.
"I'm just living in the moment, super humble, and I can still play this game and play it at a high level," James said after the game. "It came with us winning gold, and that's what's more important for me. It's pretty cool."

Victor Wembenyama played brilliantly for the French. He scored 26 points and added 7 rebounds to resemble hope for France in the future. He will be a problem moving forward.
