Updated Medal Count After Day 6 at the Paris Olympics

 

PARIS, FRANCE — The 2024 Paris Olympics are officially underway, and many American athletes will compete over the next few weeks for gold, silver, and bronze medals.

Here’s a look at how the United States is faring in the medal count at the end of Day 6, compared to other countries:

  1. United States - 41 medals - 9 gold - 17 silver - 15 bronze
  2. France - 31 medals - 9 gold - 11 silver - 11 bronze
  3. China - 27 medals - 13 gold - 7 silver - 7 bronze
  4. Great Britain - 25 medals - 9 gold - 8 silver - 8 bronze
  5. Australia - 19 medals - 8 gold - 6 silver - 5 bronze
  6. Japan - 17 medals - 8 gold - 3 silver - 6 bronze
  7. Italy - 17 medals - 5 gold - 8 silver - 4 bronze
  8. South Korea - 17 medals - 7 gold - 5 silver - 4 bronze
  9. Canada - 9 medals - 3 gold - 2 silver - 4 bronze
  10. Netherlands - 8 medals - 4 gold - 2 silver - 2 bronze

The United States jumped to second place in the gold medal chase with three golds added on Thursday. Most notable was the complete dominance by arguably the greatest gymnast of all time, Simone Biles. Biles won the Women's Gymnastics All-Around with a masterful performance throughout. Her high-flying routine on the floor exercises cemented her in the first place and immortalized her in Olympic history.

 

U.S. Women's Fencing added another gold in the Team Foil (Lee Kiefer, Lauren Scruggs, Jacqueline Dubrovich, Maia Weintraub). Finally, Kate Douglas contributed another gold to U.S. Swimming in the Women's 200m Butterfly. 

Notable gold medals for the USA include the Men’s 4x100-meter freestyle in swimming featuring Caeleb Dressel, Jack Alexy, Chris Guiliano, and Hunter Armstrong, Lee Keifer’s gold medal performance in fencing, and Torri Huske winning the gold in the Women’s 100m butterfly. Finally, the U.S. Women's Gymnastics team took gold in the team final, the Men's Rowing Fours took gold for the first time since the 1960s, and Katie Ledecky dominated in the 1500m freestyle.
