Updated Medal Count from the 2024 Olympics

PARIS, FRANCE — The 2024 Paris Olympics are officially underway, and many American athletes will compete over the next few weeks for gold, silver, and bronze medals.

Here’s a look at how the United States is faring in the medal count so far compared to other countries:

  1. United States - 12 medals - 3 gold - 6 silver - 3 bronze
  2. France - 11 medals - 3 gold - 6 silver - 2 bronze
  3. China - 9 medals - 5 gold - 2 silver - 2 bronze
  4. Japan - 9 medals - 4 gold - 2 silver - 3 bronze
  5. Great Britain - 8 medals - 2 gold - 3 silver - 3 bronze
  6. South Korea - 8 medals - 5 gold - 2 silver - 1 bronze
  7. Australia - 7 medals - 4 gold - 3 silver
  8. Italy - 6 medals - 1 gold - 2 silver - 3 bronze
  9. Kazakhstan - 3 medals - 1 gold - 2 bronze
  10. Germany - 2 medals - 2 gold

While the United States may be leading the overall medal count, China, Japan, South Korea, and Australia all have more gold medals than our athletes. Technically, no one “wins” the Olympics, but each American's competitive spirit is excited for the big Track and Field events to begin.

Notable gold medals for the USA include the Men’s 4x100-meter freestyle in swimming featuring Caeleb Dressel, Jack Alexy, Chris Guiliano, and Hunter Armstrong, Lee Keifer’s gold medal performance in fencing, and Torri Huske winning the gold in the Women’s 100m butterfly.
