SAN ANGELO, TX — The Angelo State Rams basketball team added another transfer to the roster on Friday. Head coach Vinay Patel has announced the signing of junior transfer guard Jalen Gilmore, marking the fifth transfer signee of the summer for the Rams.
Gilmore, a 6-foot-3 guard from Jacksonville, Florida, joins the Rams from Lynn University, a Division II school in the Sunshine State Conference (SSC).
"We are thrilled to add Jalen Gilmore to our roster for the upcoming year! He is an excellent decision-maker who plays with a lot of energy," Patel said. "Jalen can make shots, break pressure, and make the right play. It was evident that he would be a great fit for our program early in the recruiting process. He not only wants the very best for himself, but also his teammates."
Last season, Gilmore started 18 games for the Fighting Knights, averaging 9.5 points and 5.2 assists per game, the second-best assist tally in the SSC. He also made 44 three-pointers, shooting 40 percent from beyond the arc. As a freshman, Gilmore started 15 games and led the Knights in assists while finishing third in the SSC with five assists per contest.
"Jalen brings immediate Division II experience to our backcourt," Patel added. "He has played against excellent teams in the last two seasons in the Sunshine State Conference. We believe the best basketball is yet to come from him, and we are glad he chose Angelo State!"
The Rams are coming off a season in which they went 19-11 overall and qualified for the South Central Regional for the second straight season under Patel's leadership.
