Texas High School Coach Killed By Stray Bullet

 

SAN ANTONIO, TX — A coach from Jasper High School was killed by an apparent stray bullet in San Antonio early Tuesday, July 23.

Ayden Burt, 28, who coached volleyball and track, was reportedly shot at a rooftop event space in downtown San Antonio.

She was struck in the back and later died at a hospital, according to media reports.

Burt was in town attending a coaching conference.

Humble High School football coach Robert Murphy posted on social media that the shooting happened in front of him.

"Prayers for Ayden Burt’s family and community," Murphy posted on X. "She was sitting right next to me laughing and talking and the next bleeding in my lap. My coaches did everything they could performing CPR etc to save her life. She was excited about the upcoming year. Traumatizing.

The shooter and motive are unknown, according to the San Antonio Police Department.

Jasper is a city in East Texas with a population of about 7,500.
