SAN ANGELO, TX — Bradley Oh arrived in San Angelo in May as the new offensive coordinator for the TLCA Eagles' football team.
By June, he was in charge of the entire program.
When former head coach Jonah Masters accepted another job in May, Oh suddenly found himself promoted to his first head coaching job less than five weeks after he was hired as an assistant coach.
It leaves him little time to prepare for the upcoming season, but he's embracing the opportunity.
"It's kind of been a whirlwind for me," said Oh, who served as the offensive line coach for Central State University in Ohio the last two years. "I originally came here as the offensive coordinator, and the next thing I know the head coach takes another job and I get promoted. ...
"I'm very excited. I've been kind of blessed with the opportunity."
Oh is a native of Irving and graduated from Coppell High School. He played football at Austin College in Sherman, where he was a two-time team captain and named a Division III All-American offensive lineman in 2014.
He served as a graduate assistant coach for Austin College in 2015 before becoming the offensive line coach and head strength and conditioning coach at Northwestern State University in Louisiana.
After two years as the offensive line coach at McMurry University in Abilene, Oh coached for a year at Butler Community College in Kansas as the tight ends/H backs coach.
He spent two years at Highland Community College in Kansas, where he served as offensive coordinator for the 2021 season, before jumping to the NCAA Division II ranks at Central State.
Oh said he's excited about his first foray into high school coaching.
"With college guys, especially with the transfer portal and things like that, it can get a little crazy," Oh said. "At the high school level, it's really about being able to build relationships with kids and sending them off into the real world as great men."
TLCA is coming off a season in which the Eagles went 5-6 and lost in the first round of the playoffs.
Oh said he'll wait until football workouts begin Aug. 5 before he decides what type of offense his team will run.
"I kind of just want to see what we can do and see what personnel we have and things like that before I make a decision," Oh said.
TLCA's season is set to begin Friday, Aug. 30, at Tahoka.
As a Class 3A Division I school, TLCA is the third-largest school in the Concho Valley behind only 6A San Angelo Central and 4A Division I San Angelo Lake View.
