Angelo State Basketball Signs Summer's First Transfer

SAN ANGELO, TX — On Tuesday, the Angelo State Rams Basketball team signed its first transfer this summer. Rams head coach Vinay Patel announced that graduate transfer guard Kaden Evans signed with the Angelo State.

Evans is a Kansas City native who is headed to San Angelo from Division II School Emporia State. ASU’s Assistant Director of Athletic Communications, Nick Rackley, spoke to Patel about the new signee.

"Kaden was the first player we signed in this recruiting class. The moment he decided to transfer, our entire staff knew we needed to add a player of his caliber and character to our roster," said Patel. "He is a seasoned guard at the Division II level and has started all but two games in the last three years at Emporia State."

According to angelosports.com, Evans comes to Angelo State from a program that has had success in Evans’s three seasons as a guard. As a freshman, Evans led Division II with 3.1 steals per game and was an All-MIAA Honorable Mention as a sophomore. Last season, Evans averaged 6.6 points and grabbed 3.3 rebounds per game. The 6-foot-4 guard shot 35 percent from three and had a 2:1 assist-to-turnover ratio.

Evans is second among all Division II players in career steals with 187.

"Kaden does many things that affect winning! He is the perfect fit for our system and program,” Patel continued. “He can shoot the basketball, has had a career 2 to 1 assist to turnover ratio, and is a proven defender.

"Coach Craig Doty at Emporia took a Division 1 job this spring, and we were very fortunate to land Kaden for his last season. He has already started graduate school and will complete a Master's in Business Administration in May," Patel concluded.

Angelo State finished last season with a 19-11 overall record and another appearance in the South Central Regional tournament. It was the second straight season that the Rams qualified for the postseason during Patel’s tenure as head coach.
