The Big 12 adds four new schools to the field this season. Colorado announced last season that they would leave the Pac-12 to rejoin the Big 12. Utah, Arizona, and Arizona State followed soon after it was clear that the Pac-12 would not survive.

With the addition of four new schools this season, Texas Tech finds themselves ranked behind two of them, Utah and Arizona, from the get-go. The Red Raiders finished with a 7-6 overall record a season ago, where Tech experienced several close losses early in the season. In addition to those close losses, the Red Raiders also had an embarrassing loss to Texas, 57-7.

While Coach McGuire’s second season did not go as planned, the Red Raiders finished on a high note by crushing Cal in the Independence Bowl 34-14.

Tech had two players on the roster make the Preseason All-Big 12 team. Returning senior and star running back Tahj Brooks and Kick Returner Drae McCray made the offensive list. Brooks finished last season with 1,538 rushing yards and 10 touchdowns. The Red Raiders need to lean on Brooks in his final season to find success.
