Brady Starts Strong at 7-on-7 State Tournament

The Brady Bulldogs got off to a strong start Thursday at the Texas 7-on-7 State Tournament in College Station with a 2-1 record in pool play.

Brady won its first two games - 18-13 over Morton and 34-20 against Somerville - before dropping a 34-25 decision to Tidehaven to end the day.

As the runner-up from Pool F, Brady will now draw the third-place finisher from Pool B in the opening game of the Championship Bracket on Friday at Veterans Memorial Park.

Brady’s pool was the only one to complete all three games Thursday before play was halted for the day due to lightning. The remaining games will be played at 8 a.m. Friday.

Back-to-back defending 7-on-7 state champion Miles lost both of its games in Pool B, 32-26 to East Bernard and 41-39 to Childress. The Bulldogs will play Bartlett to complete pool play.

Sonora also went 0-2 on its opening day with losses to Lexington (32-13) and Ganado (26-14) in Pool E. The Broncos will finish up pool play against Eastland.

Iraan, making its first-ever state tournament appearance, went 1-1 on Thursday. The Braves opened with a 14-0 loss to Bremond but bounced back with a 20-13 win over Wallis Brazos. Iraan will play Tioga next.
