San Angelo Bodybuilder Qualifies for Nationals

SAN ANGELO, TX – A 24-year-old bodybuilder from San Angelo has secured his place in the national bodybuilding scene after a big performance at the International Fitness Bodybuilding Pro League and National Physique Committee Dallas Pro/Amateur Championship.

Jake Kuhlman, a 2018 graduate of Christoval High School, finished first in every class he competed in.

This was also only his second competition.

The event was held on June 15 in Dallas, and Kuhlman dominated the “classic categories,” winning first place in each class and the novice overall title.

Additionally, he competed in the bodybuilding category, securing second, third, and fourth places in the true novice, novice, and open classes, respectively.

Standing six feet tall and weighing around 230 pounds, Kuhlman has only been competing for one year.

“It’s rewarding,” Kuhlman said. “It’s all new and it’s exciting stuff. I’m going to keep going as long as I can with it. See where it takes me.”

For his accomplishments, Kuhlman was awarded with many trophies and a ring.

Even though he hasn’t been competing for very long, weightlifting has been a passion of Kuhlman's since high school.

He also serves in the Navy Reserve as a Command Fitness Leader, balancing his military duties with his bodybuilding aspirations.

“Maybe one day I’ll shoot for a ‘Mr. Texas’ title,” he said, also expressing his aspirations to stand on an Olympia stage.

He said he has until the end of next year to participate in a national competition, with events scheduled in South Carolina, Tennessee, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, California, Texas, and Las Vegas which is the event Kuhlman wishes to attend.
