Lady Cats Softball Hosts Softball Camp with Special Guest Cheyenne Floyd

SAN ANGELO, TX — The Central Lady Cats Softball team hosted its annual Summer Softball Camp for younger students around the Concho Valley this week. Kids of all ages worked on their skills under the tutelage of now-retired Coach David Millsap, the other Lady Cats’ assistant coaches, and players currently on the team.

One of the Lady Cats’ coaches, Tabitha Farmer, took time out of the camp to give an interview. Watch that below:

“This summer, we are taking the time to give back to our community,” Farmer said. “It’s really important for our older girls on JV and Varsity to feed back into the community and spark our little girls’ softball interest. We want to create that love when they are younger so that they keep developing, and that’s going to help our program in the future.”

The Lady Cats players, under the direction of the coaches, were directly involved in running the drills for the girls who showed up. The campers participated in drills related to every position one can think of on the softball diamond. Catching, throwing, hitting live pitches, softballs off of a tee, and base running were all included in stations at the camp.

This year, the Lady Cats had another special guest to offer high-level coaching at the camp. Angelo State Rambelles Pitcher Cheyenne Floyd. The 2024 LSC Pitcher of the Year made 35 appearances for the Belles in the pitching circle in 2024, including 25 starts. She finished the season 20-10 with a 1.89 ERA. As one of the most talented DII pitchers in the state, she offers a unique perspective when it comes to dealing with the pressures of being a starting pitcher.

“It’s really awesome that we have ASU here in San Angelo,” Farmer continued. “We have a girl who wants to come back and give back to these girls. They look up to her, and every day, we ask what something they learned today. They always answer Cheyenne with feedback.”

The softball camp began on Monday and will continue through Thursday, June 20.
