DALLAS— The Dallas Cowboys have officially re-signed a former top 10 draft pick and former NFL rushing yards champion.
The Cowboys have now officially resigned 2016 fourth overall pick Ezekiel Elliott. Elliott spent one season with the New England Patriots before coming back to Dallas. Last season, in a backup role, Elliott rushed for 642 yards and three touchdowns. His last year in Dallas, he rushed for 876 yards and 12 touchdowns.
Elliott has rushed for 8,904 yards and 71 touchdowns in his career.
The Cowboys lost starter Tony Pollard to the Tennessee Titans over the offseason and did not address the running back position in the most recent NFL Draft even though Owner/General Manager Jerry Jones apparently loved Texas running back Jonathan Brooks who was drafted by the Carolina Panthers.
Before signing Elliott, Dallas had Rico Dowdle, Deuce Vaughn, Royce Freeman, Malik Davis, and Snoop Conner on their roster and picked up an undrafted rookie in Missouri’s Nate Peat. They also had fullback Hunter Luepke on the roster as well.
