SAN ANGELO, TX — A member of the San Angelo Central Bobcats basketball team made another momentous step on his academic and athletic journey at Central High School on Tuesday evening. The Bobcats’ Center, Kollin Allbright, signed his papers to continue his basketball career with Angelo State University.
Surrounded by family, friends, coaches, and teammates, Allbright decided on where to take his talents next year. Bobcats’ Head Coach Rocky Feliciano stood before the crowd to talk about Kollin’s character and how proud he was to have coached him over the past seasons. Kollin’s father, Kirk Allbright, then made a short speech on what it took to obtain this opportunity and spoke to Allbright’s teammates on how they could also achieve the exposure they needed to play at the next level.
Allbright then put pen to paper amid applause from those gathered. He posed for pictures with his family, and then the team took a group photo to commemorate the occasion. Kollin took time after the signing to give his thoughts in an interview with San Angelo LIVE!’s Ryan Chadwick.
Watch that interview below:
The 6’9” Center was the engine that made the Bobcats turn over the past two seasons. Allbright led the team in scoring his junior season and was a force on defense every year he played for the Bobcats. He led his team to the playoffs in back-to-back seasons the last two years, averaging an impressive 15 points and eight rebounds a game.
Allbright heads just down the road to Angelo State next season under Head Coach Vinay Patel. Patel and the Rams come off another successful season this year with a 19-11 finish and another appearance in the Division II NCAA tournament. The Rams graduate two of their marquee “big men” this year, Trey Farrer and DJ Basey, so Allbright should be able to contribute immediately.
Kollin’s size will be an asset to the Rams moving forward, and the young man will continue to increase in strength and size during his time with Angelo State.
