SAN ANGELO, TX — The Doug McCutchen Room at San Angelo Stadium was packed with people on Tuesday night, April 10, as Central Bobcats Soccer player and Senior Jacob Castro signed with Hardin Simmons University to play Soccer at the next level.
Friends, family, and teammates gathered to hear a few words from Central’s Head Soccer Coach, Tony Vu, Jacob’s Father, and Jacob himself. Castro then signed his papers with Hardin Simmons before the crowd congratulated him and took pictures to commemorate his accomplishment.
Castro was a three-year letterman with the Central Soccer team and team captain for the last two seasons. He played midfielder and was one of the anchors of Central’s defense this season. San Angelo LIVE!’s Ryan Chadwick interviewed Jacob just before his signing on Tuesday night.
Watch the interview below:
The Bobcats concluded this past season with a second-place finish in District 2-6A. The ‘Cats appeared in the Bi-District round of the playoffs, where they fell to El Paso Montwood, 1-0, after a tough battle throughout. Castro joins a Hardin Simmons squad that advanced to the American Southwest Conference Championship in 2023. The Cowboys fell to Concordia in that matchup but still had an extremely successful season in Division III Soccer.
San Angelo wishes Jacob luck as he graduates from Central this Summer and heads to school in Abilene in the fall. We all look forward to what our Concho Valley student-athletes will do in the future.
