SAN ANGELO, TX — One of Angelo State’s Track and Field athletes received national recognition for her performance at the David Noble Relays recently. Maricia Spence was named the USTFCCCA (U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association) National Athlete of the Week.
Announced on Monday, April 8, Spence received the honor after she led the No. 7 Rambelles to a victory in the Heptathlon last Saturday at the David Noble Relays. The Angelo State Senior scored 5,791 points in the heptathlon. That score leads all of Division II by nearly 400 points.
At the Relays, she also recorded the second-best long jump at 6.22 meters (20’5”) and ranked third in the 100-meter hurdles at 13.62. Spence is also part of the 4x100-meter relay, where the Belles set a new program record with a 45.37.
Spence joins two others from Angelo State to be named as the Female National Athlete of the Week, Kami Norton and Daisey Osakue.
