San Angelo Native Signs to Play College Baseball

SAN ANGELO, TX— On Saturday, March 30, a San Angelo native took the next step toward reaching his dreams at the Bentwood Country Club. Ben Scott signed with Erskine College to play baseball at the next level.

San Angelo LIVE!’s Ryan Chadwick talked with Scott before the signing. Watch that interview below:

Scott, a San Angelo native, originally attended Central High School before he received a unique opportunity across the country. Ben’s father, Billy Scott, as any father would, searched for a baseball camp to send his son to during the summer after his sophomore year at Central High School. After he discovered that TCU’s and Texas Tech’s camps had already concluded for the summer, Scott’s father found IMG Academy’s summer baseball camp.

IMG Academy is a private school in Florida that integrates academics and athletics. According to its website, “IMG Academy allows student-athletes to explore their passions without sacrificing one for another.”

The school offers summer camps with many former professional athletes and coaches as the instructors and pumps out several top recruits to DI universities every year. During the camp, Ben Scott impressed the coaches and other instructors to the point that they offered him a scholarship to attend the academy full-time. Ben decided to move to Florida before the start of his Junior year and never looked back.

On Saturday, Ben Scott’s hard work propelled him to the next level. In front of friends, family, and former players and coaches, Scott signed with Division II Erskine College. The South Carolina-based school boasts an impressive baseball program that will help further develop Scott into a better baseball player.

While the Central Bobcats certainly missed out on a talented third baseman this season, it’s always great news when we see a kid from the Concho Valley earn these types of opportunities.
